‘Tis the season for comfy sweaters, bonfires, hot cider, pumpkin-carving, and corn mazes. The leaves are changing, and the air is crisper with each passing day. Autumn has finally arrived. But the cooler weather doesn’t mean you have to be trapped inside. There are plenty of local events on the calendar that will be fun for your entire family.
If you’re looking for an excuse to get outside and stay active this fall, make plans to attend one—or all—of these opportunities!
Oktoberfest in Winona
This day-long, German-themed celebration is taking place on September 25 in The Village at Winona. The local shops will have a scarecrow competition—and attendees will get to vote on the best one. In addition to that, there’s a homemade streusel contest, a Porsche show, a KCV ride/run challenge, and even an assortment of kids’ activities. Oktoberfest is a great way to enjoy delicious German food, be active, and celebrate the changing seasons in our community. To learn more about the day’s events, check out the event page.
Farmers’ Markets
During the winter, there are fewer chances to enjoy fresh produce and artisanal creations. But for the months of September and October, you can catch the tail-end of the summer farmers’ market events. You can find freshly grown fruits and vegetables, sweet treats, or handcrafted gifts at any of our area markets, such as the Kosciusko County Farmers’ and Artisan Market in downtown Warsaw, or the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds Farmers’ Market at the county fairgrounds. It’s the perfect chance to get a head start on your Christmas shopping, or simply enjoy a walk around town with your family.
First Friday in Warsaw
Rain or shine, First Friday events in Warsaw are always a great time—and you don’t want to miss any of them. The upcoming October celebration, known as “Art Tober,” will feature art exhibits, an artists’ competition, kids’ arts and crafts, and much more. Additionally, several businesses and shops downtown will be open later than normal to welcome the community. Head downtown on Friday, October 1 to soak everything in and take advantage of the cool fall weather.
Local Farms & Corn Mazes
Some of the best features in our community are the area apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and other farms that are open for visitors to experience. From picking apples to sampling local fare, you’ll never run out of fun things to do on the weekends this fall. In fact, autumn is the only time to enjoy Kosciusko County’s sole corn maze, located in Mentone. It’s open through October—so take advantage of it while you can!
The weather might be getting cooler, but we don’t want you to feel like you have to stay bundled up inside until the spring. As you look for activities that will appeal to your entire family—and help you stay active—we hope you’re encouraged to head outside and explore local events and opportunities.
